The arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the late 19th century further spurred growth and connectivity, making San Mateo a desirable destination for new residents and businesses. Today, remnants of its historical charm can still be seen in its preserved Victorian-era homes and downtown architecture, serving as a testament to its enduring legacy.
