Broker-Associate, Coldwell Banker Realty

Selling Peninsula homes since 1974

DRE #00462186

From the time he was a child, Ed Stephens has been fascinated by architecture and design. He built model homes out of balsa wood in the style of the fifties and walked through houses under construction, amazed at the skill of the contractors and craftsmen. That passion brought him into real estate sales in 1974.

He knew from the beginning that to succeed he had to set himself apart: more service, more knowledge, more dedication and persistence, and outstanding results for his clients. Only then would clients come back, and send their friends.

In 1976 he opened Stephens Real Estate in a quaint, turn-of-the-century house in Burlingame, and within a few years it held a large share of the market in Burlingame, Hillsborough and San Mateo. When the custom was a simple flyer, he made stunning brochures and used extensive direct mail; when the internet arrived he added email campaigns, websites and video, and he was among the first to market to buyers abroad and to use social media.

He has vision and a highly attuned sense of what works and doesn’t work.

Cashin Company acquired Stephens Real Estate in 1994 and was itself acquired by Realogy, Coldwell Banker’s parent company, in 2004. Since then Ed has been one of Coldwell Banker’s top producers year after year. He often works with developers from the securing of the land, through the entitlement process, to the marketing of the finished project.

With more than five decades in the market, Ed has a deep knowledge of the Peninsula, a negotiator’s instincts and an unrelenting passion for the work. He remains a powerful, dedicated advocate for his clients’ goals.

“Your reputation preceded you; however, it was upon personally meeting you, and then working with you as the listing agent, that we really came to appreciate how all of those years of experience translated into a very smooth and successful real estate transaction.”
